What is AOD-9604?
Researchers at Monash University found that the tail end of the growth hormone molecule (amino acids 176–191) appeared responsible for its effects on fat breakdown, separately from its growth-promoting effects. AOD-9604 is a stabilised version of that fragment. It was developed by Metabolic Pharmaceuticals and reached clinical trials for obesity but was not approved for that use.

Research background
AOD-9604 is studied for its effects on lipolysis (fat breakdown) and lipogenesis in fat tissue without the effects of full-length growth hormone on IGF-1 levels or blood glucose. Later preclinical work has also looked at cartilage and joint models. Human trials in obesity did not show sufficient weight change for approval.
