Description

Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide made of glutamate, cysteine and glycine, and it is the most abundant antioxidant molecule inside human cells. Resolve BioLabs supplies reduced L-glutathione as a 1500 mg lyophilized vial.

What is Glutathione?

Glutathione is unusual among peptides: the glutamate is linked through its side-chain (gamma) carboxyl group rather than the usual alpha position, which protects it from most peptidases. The cysteine’s thiol (–SH) group does the chemical work, donating electrons to neutralise reactive oxygen species. Two glutathione molecules oxidise to form glutathione disulfide (GSSG), and the GSH:GSSG ratio is a standard measure of cellular oxidative stress.

Research background

Glutathione is central to research on oxidative stress, liver detoxification (phase II conjugation via glutathione S-transferases), redox signalling, and melanin synthesis, where it is studied for shifting pigment production. It is also a routine reagent in protein chemistry for maintaining reducing conditions.

Keep the unopened vial sealed and protected from light and moisture. Follow the temperature instructions on the product label. After preparing a solution, follow your laboratory’s validated storage protocol.

Testing and documentation

Available reports describe the samples tested. Match the compound, format, strength and lot identifier with your supplied label; a supplier report does not by itself verify current stock. See the report library.

Glutathione FAQ

What is reduced glutathione?

Reduced glutathione (GSH) is the active antioxidant form, with a free thiol group. The oxidised form is GSSG.

Is glutathione a peptide?

Yes — it is a tripeptide, though an unusual one because of its gamma-glutamyl bond.

Why is the vial 1500 mg?

Glutathione is used at much higher masses than signalling peptides, so research vials are larger.
