Description
IGF-1 LR3 — short for Long Arg3 Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 — is a modified version of human IGF-1 with an arginine substitution and a 13-amino-acid extension. Those changes sharply reduce binding to IGF-binding proteins, so it stays active much longer in cell-culture systems. Resolve BioLabs supplies IGF-1 LR3 in 0.1 mg and 1 mg lyophilized vials.
What is IGF-1 LR3?
Natural IGF-1 is a 70-amino-acid hormone produced mainly in the liver in response to growth hormone. Most circulating IGF-1 is held by binding proteins (IGFBPs), which limits how much is free to act. In IGF-1 LR3, the glutamic acid at position 3 is replaced with arginine (the “R3”) and a 13-residue N-terminal extension is added (the “Long”), giving an 83-amino-acid protein. It was developed largely as a cell-culture growth supplement, where it remains widely used.

Research background
IGF-1 LR3 is used in research on IGF-1 receptor signalling (PI3K/Akt and MAPK pathways), muscle-cell (myoblast) proliferation and differentiation, and as a serum-replacement additive in bioprocessing and cell-culture media. Its reduced IGFBP binding makes it a useful tool for separating receptor effects from binding-protein effects.

Keep the unopened vial sealed and protected from light and moisture. Follow the temperature instructions on the product label. After preparing a solution, follow your laboratory’s validated storage protocol.
Testing and documentation
Available reports describe the samples tested. Match the compound, format, strength and lot identifier with your supplied label; a supplier report does not by itself verify current stock. See the report library.

IGF-1 LR3 FAQ
What does LR3 mean?
“Long” refers to the 13-amino-acid N-terminal extension, and “R3” to the arginine that replaces glutamic acid at position 3.
How is IGF-1 LR3 different from IGF-1?
It is longer (83 vs 70 amino acids) and binds IGF-binding proteins far less, so it remains active longer in experimental systems.
Why are the vial sizes so small?
IGF-1 LR3 is highly potent in cell and tissue models, so research quantities are measured in fractions of a milligram.
