Description
MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded not in the cell nucleus but in mitochondrial DNA — one of a small group of “mitochondrial-derived peptides”. Resolve BioLabs supplies MOTS-c as lyophilized powder in 10 mg and 40 mg vials.
What is MOTS-c?
The name stands for Mitochondrial Open reading frame of the Twelve S rRNA type-c. It was described in 2015 by Changhan Lee and colleagues at the University of Southern California, who showed that the short sequence hidden inside the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene produces a functional peptide. That finding helped establish mitochondria as a source of signalling molecules, not only energy.

Research background
MOTS-c research centres on metabolism: its effect on the folate cycle and AMPK activation, insulin sensitivity in mouse models of diet-induced obesity, skeletal-muscle glucose uptake, and how levels change with age and exercise. It is also studied under cellular stress, where it has been reported to move into the nucleus and influence gene expression. The large majority of this data is from cell and animal studies.
Format, storage and handling
Keep the unopened vial sealed and protected from light and moisture. Follow the temperature instructions on the product label. After preparing a solution, follow your laboratory’s validated storage protocol.
Testing and documentation
Available reports describe the samples tested. Match the compound, format, strength and lot identifier with your supplied label; a supplier report does not by itself verify current stock. See the report library.

MOTS-c FAQ
What does MOTS-c stand for?
Mitochondrial Open reading frame of the Twelve S rRNA type-c.
Is MOTS-c made in the mitochondria?
It is encoded in mitochondrial DNA. This product is a synthetic version of that 16-amino-acid sequence.
Which size should I choose?
10 mg and 40 mg refer to total peptide per vial; pick based on the scale of your study.
